The title of the newly published article by Dr John Sullivan immediately grabbed my attention and got me firmly back in the saddle of my favourite hobbyhorse cheap motel rates which I touched on in my last blog .  He contends that CEO's are "laser focussed" on revenue growth and to add strategic cheap motel rates value HR must become champions of this cause too.  Hiring and broader strategic resourcing must therefore move away from a focus on direct cost reduction in favour of an approach which delivers broader business value, and specifically revenue growth.  His article explores 10 revenue impacts of an effective resourcing capability.  I would perhaps add to his list of action steps to implement a revenue focussed resourcing strategy, the need to adopt a new perspective on workforce segmentation.  Increasingly we are guiding organisations to differentiate between "business-as-usual" hiring and those programmes designed to attract future leaders, innovators or professionals with critical and hard-to-find skill sets.  In doing so an employer can build a highly efficient "machine" for business-as-usual hiring whilst investing more in a creative capability specifically cheap motel rates designed to attract and secure those professionals who are most likely to make a real difference to performance and revenue generation once on board.
