On our second full day in Scotland, we took a bus tour of the Highlands. Our blonde tour guide was named Penny which I found delightful. We shared our sixteen seater van with a group of Spanish tourists, one older Italian man, and some North and South Dakotans with very strong Midwestern accents.
We drove to Loch Ness where Rayna and I took a boat cruise to look for Nessie. Unfortunately, we only found more tourists. We learned from Penny that old Scottish men can have an entire conversation with only one word, "Aye." And that the best cure for a hangover is pop called Irn Bru that apparently tastes like bubblegum. The Highlands were covered in heather.
When we got back to Edinburgh, we went out for Italian las vegas sports tickets (with the wait staff dressed as cowboys and Indians) and then got drinks las vegas sports tickets at my pick, the "old people bar." I was lured in by the Paul Simon, okay? Don't ever drink the cheapest whiskey in a Scottish pub, especially neat, surrounded by sixty year old men dancing with drunk twentysomethings (who were not us). Lesson learned.
