My wife and I recently returned from a twelve day tour of China. Before we went I really tried to learn as much as I could about what to expect, but I couldn't find much of anything. Most all of the guide books that are out there are targeted towards people traveling in China *without* a tour guide.
Rather than just producing a slideshow of photographs from our trip, this time I decided to create a video instead. I wrote a short script and hired a professional voice actor, Mike Jones, to narrate. I did all of the editing using Imovie on my Mac. I could have done a much better job but, frankly, editing videos is extremely time consuming and it's quite easy to fall down a hole tweaking and editing simply forever.
Instead I made a single seattle hotel deals pass, and got the main content that I wanted in there, and I stopped. I'm reasonably happy with the video. The target audience for the video is, first and foremost, for my friends and family and the other people who went on the tour with us. The second audience is for people considering taking a tour to China and want a better idea what to expect; something more than just reading a tour guide brochure.
I've broken the video up into twelve sections, one segment for each day. It contains mostly photographs but there is also a little bit of video. On day 8 and day 11 we went to shows, seattle hotel deals and I've incorporated some video from those performances. On day 7, I focus on pictures of the Chinese people and our tour group.
I hope you enjoy the video, it was a lot of work to put together. If you take a tour to China and find my videos were useful, let me know. I would really appreciate the hard work paid off in that way. All of the videos have been uploaded in high-definition; so be sure and go full screen and set them to the maximum quality playback.
