Unless cheap hotels you are in the travel business or the insurance business, you may not know what kinds of travel insurances there are, and if they are smart to buy. Some are and some are not, and don't expect the advertisements and travel professionals getting a commission to tell which to get. They are mainly looking out for their interests, not necessarily yours. I will do my best in this report to give you the straight cheap hotels scoop.
This available right at the airport in kiosks and offer to give you super big bucks if the plane crashes and you perish.  These are a bad deal.  If you annualized that premium, it is the most expensive insurance you can buy, and it really is not needed. cheap hotels And if the worst happens, your relatives will get a handsome payment from the airlines cheap hotels anyway (but the chances of that happening are so meniscal it almost cannot be measured).
If you are taking a short flight, or even a long flight, and have a hotel reservation or two backed by a credit cheap hotels card guarantee, this is probably another insurance you can skip.  But if you are taking a ten thousand dollar cruise vacation where the ship will leave without you if you are not there, then you should probably take it.  Or if you are booked on a  tour group leaving the destination city on a particular day. If you get sick, or miss your trip, or the travel provider (airline, cruise line, bus transfer company) goes out of business, you re not left high and dry with this insurance. You re covered. My advice: YES, with one additional caution. Do NOT buy this insurance from the individual travel provider, meaning don t buy your cruise trip insurance from the cruise ship company or don t buy it from the tour operator.  Why? If that company goes out of business, chances are, so does their insurance.
If your luggage is lost or stolen, and this happens a lot overseas where not so much emphasis is placed on baggage security, the airline is required to reimburse you an amount that is limited by an international cheap hotels Warsaw Convention.  That would be $9.07 per pound of checked baggage (or $362.80 for a 40 lb. suitcase) or $400 for unchecked luggage.  If you had an expensive camera or a laptop in your luggage, along with some other expensive gear and clothing, you are going to lose on that one.  Baggage insurance will cover the amount of the real cost not paid by the airline, but it is essential that you prepare a little list in your travel notebook of what expensive things you have in your luggage (not just in a document in the laptop that will be stolen with your suitcase while transferring flights in that exotic third world country).
Some credit cards include cheap hotels some protection with their card.  Call the toll free number for your cards before you leave to ask them if anything is covered.  Some American cheap hotels Express cards are especially generous with protection for death, dismemberment,  and loss of luggage.  In a recent severe car accident my wife and I had in Thailand, our ATM card from the bank covered the deductible amount our health insurance did not pay in some medical bills.  A pleasant cheap hotels surprise (albeit we had to pound the desk of the card insurance guy a few times).
Getting ripped off of your expensive camera or computer tablet while walking around the market place in some exotic tropical city is probably not going to be covered by travel insurance, but often your homeowners or renters insurance from back home will cover it.  And your automobile insurance may cover your accident in a rental car.  It just takes a quick call to your agent or to the company directly before you leave the US.  Check on this and be prepared to get back up documentation if this event happens (like an accident report or a report to police about something stolen) so that you can easily get reimbursed when you return.
If you are taking that dream vacation from Cleveland to San Diego, and you already have health insurance, you are probably covered and don't need Travel Medical Insurance.  But if you are traveling overseas, like to Thailand, the coverage you have in the States will probably not do much for you if you have a problem on your vacation trip.  Some US health insurances will cover the very basic emergency services overseas, but it would be smart to actually look at your policy or call your agent to get what is covered. You may be surprised how little it covers.  If you are retired cheap hotels and on Medicare, understand it will not help in a situation outside of the US at all, so you need another health insurance plan when you go out of the country.  Plans from reputable travel health insurance providers provide adequate coverage for medical expenses, and provide a certain amount to hop on a plane and go home to your regular doctor or medical facility.  And most important is that the insurance company you are going to use provides a 24/7 emergency hotline for assistance in English wherever cheap hotels you go.
There are a lot of companies that offer travel health insurance, and just make sure you get a reputable one, which is easily checked on the internet.  And, as an American, I would advise using an American company, because they will tailor their services to what an American traveler needs.  My personal recommendation cheap hotels is Travel Guard Insurance , based out of New York City (but I won t hold that against them).
Most of the better travel insurance companies will package up the important insurances along with a couple that you probably would not want to buy by itself, and come up with a pretty reasonable cost.
$500,000: Emergency Evacuation Repatriation of Remains Covers evacuation and transportation as directed by a physician to the nearest adequate medical facility, (home in the event of death or if medically required).
The cost for our example 47 year old guy from California going to Thailand for a month is a total of $269, or less that $9 per day.  (This insurance quotation came from Travel Guard Insurance in their "Gold Plan".  They have different plans that are lower and higher in costs depending on insurances provided, cheap hotels and the insurance costs will vary according to destination, so it would be advisable to get a specific quotation for your planned trip.  You can get your quotation with the Link below).
In the interests of full disclosure, I want to mention that if you were to purchase Travel Insurance from Travel Guard from a link on this website, I would be getting a small commission for doing so.  If anyone that does that and then wants to stop by our restaurant in Chiang Mai, Thailand, and demand a free Beer Chang as a reward for getting the insurance through my website, I would be happy to comply (not sure if that s legal, however).

A note for U.S. Medicare beneficiaries: Some Medicare Advantage plans cover emergency and urgent medical treatment outside of the U.S. but some is not the same as all, so if you plan to travel internationally, you should check with your provider, and possibly even switch cheap hotels plans during the open season to get that coverage if it s important to you.
