We picked up Coco from Jucy in Christchurch. It was amazing to get the chance to drive round the whole of the South Island and we were so excited to pick Coco up. We explored the city and picked up provisions before making our way to Greymouth check airline flight status to visit Jillian s cousin Laura and her family. On the way we stopped in Arthur Pass for lunch and watched the Keas. We had to keep Coco a bit of a distance away because we had heard that they would rip the rubber seals off cars! The rest of the drive was amazing! We have decided that NZ is by far the prettiest country in the world. We arrived in Greymouth to a royal reception from Laura s 1 and 3 year old boys Rory and Cameron and in time for dinner and a few beers, by far the best way to settle in for the night.
Jillians check airline flight status cousin s husband Dwayne took us out for the day around check airline flight status Greymouth checking out all the local caves and walks as well as the Punakaiki blow holes and pancake rocks. We got there at high tide and got to see them at their most active. The whole place looks like Jurassic park! It was great to get some insight on the area from someone who had lived there all their lives and who could take us to all the places that might not be so easy to find. Greymouth is awesome! So much stuff to see and do in a small area, it will be sad to have to go, but we re both so excited about Queenstown. Can t wait!
Early start so that we could make it to Barrytown in time for knifemaking! What an amazing day, you start out with a safety brief and are given the raw materials to make your knife which you hand forge yourself, heating the metal and beating it into shape on an anvil! Can t stress how good this day out was, Stephen and Robin made us all so welcome in their house and we came away with one of the coolest souvenirs ever! Lucy even got a shot on the giant swing and the axe and ninja star throwing area! So much fun! Its right next to an awesome beach where you can fine loads of green stone but it was way too cold and windy for us wimps to go scrambling around in the salty sand looking for any, so we just started heading down to Ross where we planned to spend the night and cook up some of Jillians world class butter chicken!
check airline flight status Another early start (having way too many of these) so we could drive the hour and a half to Franz Joseph and catch our heli flight up the glacier! It was awesome trecking through the ice with our borrowed and waterproofs and crampons before the weather moved in and cut the trip short, however every cloud has a silver lining and the group size meant that Jack, Jill and Lucy were the last people off the mountain and got our very own helicopter taxi back to town! The glacier tour came with a free entry to the glacier hot pools, so next up was a few hours heating check airline flight status up and relaxing in the hot pools with the others check airline flight status who were on the same tour. It was really good to sit and prune up in the super hot water after all that time on the ice in the rain. After this we got started on our drive down to Queenstown, camping for the night just outside Hasst.
Up super early today because Jack was so stoked to get to Queenstown that he literally didnt sleep! Not going to lie to you guys, Queenstown is THE MOST AMAZING PLACE IN THE WORLD!!!!! Honestly love this place. We parked up and made our way up to the lookout point on the gondola. At the top they have these little three wheeled cars called luges and a massive big track that you can race them on. Being two of the most competitive people alive we of course were very silly and raced far too fast. Jillian won both times because Jack has turned into a fatty since being in NZ therefore had more to weigh him down. As a fatty, he turned to food to drown his sorrows so it was straight to famous Fergberger for some meaty goodness, but not before we booked check airline flight status our place on the canyon swing for the next day it is going to be SWEET! Cold night camping ahead, for some reason Queenstown is way colder than everywhere else, but its all good because we have Coco to protect us from the elements!
Today is the day! We were booked in for the 12.30 session on the swing so it was a pretty small breakfast (neither of us were very hungry) and off into town to make our phone calls to the parents to tell them we loved them etc .just kidding but Jack was soooo scared! We got the shuttle up to the canyon and the seriousness of what we had signed ourselves up to became far more apparent. The cliff was huge, its a 60m fall even before you swing which is bigger than a lot of bungees, then you re swung out over the river! Jack was up first, and got talked into going backwards, which is supposed to be the scariest, check airline flight status and yes it was. So much so in fact that the video of the jump couldnt be bought because of the language involved. Jillian went for the backwards approach as well, with the added factor of being kicked 300 style off the platform (THIS IS SPARTA) which sent her flying off and away in a huge arc! Jillians video could not be bought for the same reason as Jacks. The canyon swing guys were offering a 2nd swing for ten bucks extra so we decided to go for it and did a tandem jump called Gimp boy goes to hollywood, where they string you up so your facing the floor of the canyon (which looks way further away from that angle) and they pull a pin so you fall straight down at terminal velocity! It really was one of the most amazing, most brilliant days out either of us have ever had in our lives. There was so much adrenaline pumping though us on the drive to the campsite that we could barely sleep but we got some shuteye out near Lake Tepako later on in the evening.
Our last full day with Coco sad times, but all good things must come to an end. We had covered a lot of ground the day before so we didnt need to go so far, meaning a bit of a more relaxing day! We went into the town near Lake Tepako and checked out the old church and the collie check airline flight status monument, which Jillian decided to decorate with some of the Jucy props and a Scotland flag before we headed off towards Peel Forest for the night. We got there about 3 so it was into the bottle shop in town for a few beers and some chow so we could see Coco off in style. Jillian also managed to get herself addicted to angry birds on the iPad, playing until the battery was depleted and Jack was asleep! Good times!
Needing to get to Christchurch before 4 so we can drop Coco off (booo!!!!). So we decided to take the scenic route into town and chill out in our last few hours with the old girl! NZ really is the most amazing country, Jillian loves it, Jack wishes he had been born here! We honestly cant thank Jucy enough for the opportunity to take Coco out and give us the chance to travel in style! Driving this amazing country really is the best way to see it. Thank you so much Jucy and thanks Coco! We will miss you x
